Tesco Vouchers!
11/02/2010 Yes - its that time of year again! Tesco will soon be handing out its Vouchers for Schools and Clubs...and we are going to collect them for the Club again this year. Please help us to collect as many vouchers as possible - the CELTS Wheelchair Basketball Club always needs new basketball, bibs, pumps etc and there is a wide range of equipment that we can access through this scheme.
Please bring the vouchers along to training or give them to any Club Committee member - if you would prefer to send them to us in the post, please send an email to info@cardiffwheelchairbasketball.co.uk and we'll send you an address.

Its Christmas!!!
20/12/09 The CELTS are now enjoying our Chistmas Break. The season (2009-2010) saw the CELTS first team make its first entry into the GB second division - and we have made an incredible debut in this much more challenging division. Most teams can expect a VERY difficult first season immediately after promotion - but we go into the Christmas break with 3 wins and 2 losses under our belt. Its an amazing start and shows that we were really ready for the second division.

Both teams have got a lot of tough matches ahead of them for the remainder of the season - but we can be very proud of what we have already achieved...and the Club would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone involved with the Club who has helped us to get this far. We've come a VERY long way over the past 7 years - and we couldn't have done it without all our players, friends, volunteers, coaches and supporters.

NEW CELTS junior sessions in Caerphilly!!
08/11/09 The CELTS are pleased to be able to bring you another opportunity to enjoy this amazing sport. We are running wheelchair basketball sessions on a Tuesday evening (starting on 17th November 2009) in Caerphilly for anyone aged between 5 and 19 years old who can push a manual wheelchair.

CELTS Christmas Party 2009!
18/10/09 We have organised our Christmas Party early this year (because December tends to be so busy for everyone) - its being held on Friday 20th November 2009 at the Village Hotel in Cardiff (29 Pendwyallt Road, Coryton, Cardiff, CF14 7EF) starting at 6.30pm and ending at 10pm. A buffet will be provided and we will be bringing various games (giant sized Jenga and Connect 4, a Wii, Foosball and AirHockey!).
Tickets for the Party must be purchased in advance - £5 for juniors and £10 for adults.
If you would like to buy a ticket - please buy one from Jo (or another Committee members) at Club training asap....there are a limited number of spaces - so be quick!!! If you cannot make it down to training before the night of the party and would like to come, you can reserve a ticket by using the details on the "Contact Us" page of this website.
Family and friends of Club members are welcome - but everyone will need to buy a ticket!
Lets make this the best Christmas party so far!!!

The CELTS have been awarded Disability Sports Wales' CLUBMARK accreditation!
Sept 2009 - GREAT NEWS - The Cardiff CELTS Wheelchair Basketball Club has been awarded Disability Sport Wales' Clubmark accreditation.
This is a great achievement for the club - we have worked really hard to create a safe environment for everyone to learn and enjoy wheelchair basketball.
The Club's documents are available on THIS page (which is also accessible via the Club Committee page).
The Committee is dedicated to ensuring that these documents (and the spirit of these documents) are implemented in the running of the Club. So please take the time to look through these documents - and let us know if there is anything you are not sure about.
End of Season Bowling and Awards Evening

1/08/09 We've had amazing news!!! Our first team has won promotion to the 2nd Division of the GB National League!! That is a really amazing achievement after only three seasons in the League - and is proof of all the hard work put in by players, coaches and everyone at the CELTS....WELL DONE guys!!!!
Fixtures for the 2009-2010 season will appear on this website soon.
The CELTS first team will notice a BIG step up in the quality of our opposition and we look forward to the new challenge this coming season....but we can always use the support of a noisy home crowd and entry to our matches is FREE - so please come along to support us!!! 
Caroline has been selected for GB!
The CELTS' Caroline Matthews has been selected for the GB Womens
team going to the European Championships in Aylesbury from 27th to 30th
August 2009… CONGRATULATIONS!!
The tournament is being held at Stoke Mandeville stadium and the
best female wheelchair basketballers from all over Europe will be
fighting for a place at the World Championships (being held in
Birmingham 2010)…so there are sure to be some excellent matches. More

Bucket Collections on 25th and 26th July 2009
1/08/09 We raised £550 during the bucket collection at Asda in Pentwyn on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July 2009. MANY THANKS to everyone from the Club who devoted their time and to all the members of the public who kindly donated some much needed funds....we appreciate that times are very difficult for everyone at the moment and this makes every donation that little bit more special.
So - we'd like to say a big
The Club's annual costs over the past 12 months have been in the region of £6000 - consequently, its critical for the survival and continued growth of our Club that we continue to regularly raise funds. Every penny donated really does count. If anyone out there has any ideas for fundraising activites or knows someone who might be able to sponsor the Club - we'd love to hear from you.
We also need active volunteers to keep the Club running smoothly - and if you have any spare time on your hands - we'd also love to hear from you.

15/07/09 A new "try wheelchair basketball" session has been added to the CELTS Summer Roadshow - its on Sunday 19th July 2009 at Newport Velodrome...anyone who would like to have a go and any Club members that want to come for some extra practice are very welcome to attend - see the Roadshow page for further details.
League registration - the deadline for league registration is looming...please scroll down for the full News items below. Exisiting competitive players needs to ask Holly or Jo for a league registration form (or download one via the link in the new item below) SOON! New players are also welcome to sign up for the one of the Club's teams.
Volunteers for the next bucket collection - the nest bucket collection is on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July 2009 at Asda in Pentwyn, Cardiff. We need lots of volunteers to "man the buckets" for a whole weekend - and we really need to raise lots of funds before the new season starts. Please let Jo know if you can help out as soon as possible.
Josh Ginn's Memorial Tournament on Sunday 2nd August 2009 in Derby - we are planning to take a small team providing a mix of new and experienced players to this friendly club tournament. Our first match is at 10am on the Sunday, so we will probably travel up Saturday and stay over Saturday night (at a cost of £25 per person). Let Holly or Jo know as soon as possible whether you are interested in playing.

Club AGM - Thursday 30th July 2009
15/07/09 The Club will hold its Annual General Meeing on Thursday 30th July 2009 at Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff.
We will have a fun training session from 6 - 7.15pm and then hold the
AGM. That training session will be open to the families and friends of
CELTS members - so come along, jump in a chair and have a go...we'll be
running some fun friendly matches before holding the AGM.
At
the AGM you will have an opportunity to have your say about where the
Club is aiming to go - and we'll need your help in voting for the
Commitee members for the next year.
Please
make the effort to attend the AGM - this is your Club...and this is
your opportunity to decide how we all move forward together.

12/07/09 The Click4Kit website is a venture which aims to bring together local clubs with local businesses - and which could help us bring in much needed funds for the Club. The Cardiff CELTS Wheelchair Basketball Club has been entered in the Click4Kit monthly "draw" to win new playing kit - and now we need your help!!! We need as many votes as possible before the end of each calendar month to try to win this draw....please use the link below to visit out Team Page and then Nominate the CELTS. A new draw is made every month - and you can vote once a month...so PLEASE remember to visit the site each month and vote for the CELTS. You will need to register with the site - which will make nominating next month even quicker.

League Registration 2009 - 2010 season
22/06/09 Last Season was our best ever. Development Division won the South Region undefeated and our Division 3 team made it to the Playoffs - where they played some of their best moves ever (so far!).
As usual, its time to start thinking about the 2009 - 2010 seasons already! Anyone wishing to play in the league, needs to complete a GBWBA registration form in early July. Anyone who went to the Playoffs had to pay towards hotel accommodation and, as a gesture of goodwill, this season the Celts committee have agreed to pay the league registration for anyone in the club who played at the Playoffs.
We need to know by July 2nd who wants to play in the league so the coaches can decide who should play for Division 3 and who should play in Development Division. Anyone is welcome to play league, including new players. But please note that there is a minimum age of 12 for entry into the national league.
If you want to talk to either Holly or Jo, as coaches, before deciding whether to sign up or not, please just get in touch with them (details are on the Contact Us page).
For those who did not go to the Playoffs, league fees are £30 for adults and £15 for under 19's. This sum covers your insurance. If anyone needs to pay in instalments to cover this amount, please speak to any of the Committee members.

Josh Ginns Memorial Tournament - 2nd August 2009
21/06/09 The Cardiff CELTS wheelchair Basketball Club is planning to attend the Josh Ginn's Memorial Weekend on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2009. We are still working out the details of the CELTS trip to the Derby Wheelblazers for this tournament - but, in the meantime, you can read the poster and the letter to Clubs.
End of Season Bowling and Awards Evening
21/06/09 The CELTS will be having a bowling and awards evening on Tuesday 4th August 2009 at the Bowlplex at Nant Gawr, Cardiff. We will be starting at 6pm with a bowling match and then having our "End of Season" awards. The bowling will cost approximately £4.00 per person. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!

Tesco Vouchers
21/06/09 THANK YOU to everyone who gave us Tesco Club vouchers. We received a massive amount - and we really do appreciate you passing these on to us. We are still submitting these to Tesco - but are hoping to be able to get some new bibs for club training and a new bag to keep some of the basketball in. We hope to have some vouchers left over that we can "bank" until next years collection.

Summer Break in Training
26/05/09 PLEASE NOTE that there is no training from Thursday 14th May 2009 until Thursday 2nd July 2009. The gap in training is due to the College closing its Sportshall for exams. We hope to see you all (and anyone new who would like to try wheelchair basketball) on 2nd July 2009.
We have arranged a training session on Saturday 20th June 2009 at Eastern Leisure Centre in Cardiff. If you fancy having a go at wheelchair basketball this is your perfect opportunity...from 1 to 3 pm we are running a beginners wheelchair basketball session - which is free to attend and open to everyone. So why not come along and have a go???
From 3 to 5 pm (on Saturday 20th June at Eastern Leisure Centre) there will be a club training session.
When we re-start the "main" training session on 2nd July 2009 the session from 6 - 7.30 pm will be open to everyone (except first team players - who are welcome to come along and help if they would like) and the session from 7.30 to 9pm will be by invitation only.
There is more great news too - we are looking to start a regular Sunday training session - its due to start at the beginning of August at Eastern Leisure Centre. This session will be open to invited players only (mainly those at 3rd division standard) and the "plan" is that our Club matches can be played on a sunday at Eastern Leisure Centre next season (so we will be used to the rings!). At the moment it looks like the cost will be £2.60 per player (for the Sunday training session) and each player will need to pay on the door on their way in. It will probably run from 3-5pm...and we need players to attend to make this a successful session - and to make it to the play-offs again next season! We'll bring you more news as soon as its available.
In the mean time, we are also trying to arrange an end of year "do" - we are thinking that we could combine an Awards evening with a Club bowling evening and we are in the process of finalising the arrangements - we are hoping to go bowling at Nant Garw on Thursday 25th June 2009 at 6pm - but that is not yet confirmed and final details will appear here as soon as they are available. So please check back again soon.
Wheelchair Sports Spectacular 2009
07/05/09 Did you know that right here in Cardiff every year there is a Wheelchair Sports Spectacular - its on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June 2009 at NIAC in UWIC Cyncoed Campus, Cardiff, CF23 6XD. This is your chance to come along and try over 15 sports - including Wheelchair Basketball. The CELTS will be there running sessions on both days...its the perfect opportunity to come along and have a go. We'd love to see you.
